Building Community through Abstract Expressionism

Published on: May 14, 2018

Linden Christian is committed to our vision of growing compassionate community members. Our Kindergarten to Grade 12 school offers unique opportunities for students of all ages to connect. A recent PLC group intentionally crossed grade groups to build connections in our community. Senior Resource teacher Mrs. Chantelle Byrnes worked with Senior Years art teacher Lynelle Thiessen and Early Years teacher Miss Slama to increase artistic skill sets and provide an environment for multi-grade and staff interactions.

Students in Grade 12 helped guide Grade 2 students through an abstract expressionist project where students poured, splashed, and dripped paint in the style of Jackson Pollock. The goal of the project was to build deeper connections and relationships across the grade levels through an accessible project.
