Missions Team Witnesses God’s Hand in GuatemalaRecently, a team of 22 students and four staff members from our school embarked on a life-changing missions trip to Tactic, Guatemala. They went with open hearts and returned with stories of how the people of Guatemala served as a mirror of God’s unconditional love and hospitality.
The trip was marked by moments of overwhelming joy. At the Agu de Vida and Mocohan schools, students were greeted by lines of children holding handmade signs, throwing confetti, and offering flowers they picked on their way to school.
“The first hug I received is a feeling I will forever cherish,” shared Meredith, one of the students on the trip. “She didn’t know who I was… but she loved me because I am a child of God. This is how God’s love is.”
The team also experienced the reality of spiritual darkness during visits to the local Chixim church and Chicoy sinkhole, where many locals participate in rituals and sacrifices. These moments were intense but served to solidify the students’ faith.
Standing in the depths of a sinkhole where remnants of rituals still burned, the team chose to lift their voices in worship. “I felt the dark presence, but was not afraid,” said Cade. “I knew that the power of the devil could not touch me because the power of Christ resides in me. I was just overjoyed to get to proclaim God’s name in such a dark place.”
From the selfless nannies at the Impact Ministries children’s home to the joyful worship of students who have very little in terms of possessions, our students saw God work powerfully. They participated in VBS programs, played soccer, and visited sponsor homes. They found that the language barrier was no match for the Holy Spirit.
As our team settles back into life at home, the impact of the recent trip to Tactic remains. They saw miracles in the lives of abandoned infants and felt the “warm embrace of God” through the arms of children. We are thankful for the seeds of faith God has planted in our students that will surely grow for years to come.
