A Celebration of Curiosity at Grade 7 Science FairExcitement and curiosity was evident as our Grade 7 students transformed the Small Gym into a hub of scientific discovery on Thursday, March 12, 2026. This year’s Science Fair was more than just a presentation of backboards; it was a demonstration of scientific inquiry, and an opportunity to foster a commitment to excellence in our Middle Years students.
The day began with personalized visits with our volunteer judges. Students were called to the gym to defend their hypotheses and explain their methodologies to our skilled volunteers. After a morning diving into data, our judges transitioned to a working lunch to finalize scores and recommend Bronze, Silver, and Gold distinctions—results that were also reviewed by our dedicated Grade 7 teaching team.
In the afternoon, our young scientists had the opportunity to step into the role of mentors. During a K-6 tour, the Grade 7s remained at their stations, even sacrificing their recess to share their findings with younger students. It was inspiring to see them sparking a sense of wonder throughout the school.
Parents were invited for a final tour of the projects before transitioning to the Sanctuary for the concluding Award Ceremony. The atmosphere was celebratory as a slideshow of the day’s highlights played, showcasing the hard work of our Grade 7 scientists. LCS students that received a Gold standing will move on to the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium (MSSS) from April 10-12, 2026, the largest annual science event held for students throughout Manitoba. All LCS students (regardless of standing) have the opportunity to attend the MSSS if they wish to do so. The registration deadline is March 30 and the fee is $40 per student.
This success of this event is only possible through the collective effort of our community.

Scientific curiosity and passion was showcased by the Class of 2031. The gym may be empty and the backboards put away, but the spark of inquiry ignited at this year’s fair will burn for years to come.
