Curiosity, Creativity and Canada-Wide Dreams at Manitoba Schools Science SymposiumBioplastics and turning water into watts… many LCS students recently took part in the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium from April 10-12, 2026.
Young scientists from Grades 5 – 9 represented Linden Christian School with poise, taking home numerous medals and specialized awards. From testing hand-washing methods to decoding silent speech, these projects were a testament to the hours of research, trial, and error our students invested.
Grade 9 student Ayomipo O‘s project, “Silent Speech Decoding for Dysarthria Using sEMG,” didn’t just win a Gold medal—it swept the intermediate category, winning the Misericordia Foundation Science Award of Excellence, the SHAD Award, first place for the Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Award and Most Outstanding Health and Biotechnology Award.
Most impressively, Ayomipo was named the Overall Winner to represent the province of Manitoba at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton this May! To compete on a national stage is an incredible honor, and we are thrilled to be cheering Ayomipo on as he takes his innovation to the next level.

- Recognition: Along with a Gold Medal, Ayomipo earned a staggering list of accolades including Overall National Finalist, First Place Canadian Medical and Biological Engineering Award, Misericordia Foundation Award of Excellence, the SHAD Award, and the Most Outstanding Health and Biotechnology Award.

- Recognition: Gold Medal and the prestigious “Best Overall Project” in the Junior Category.

- Project: Water Intake and Hydration in Children
- Recognition: Gold Medal, Best Biological Project (Elementary), and the Canadian Medical Biotechnology Award.
Avleen B. (Grade 6)
- Project: The Battle of Enzymes
- Recognition: Gold Medal and the Most Outstanding Health/Biotechnology Award.
Logan R. (Grade 7)
- Project: The Growth of a Sunflower
- Recognition: Gold Medal and the Most Outstanding Plant Science Award (Junior).
Tia M. (Grade 7)
- Project: Making it Clear
- Recognition: Gold Medal and the Most Outstanding Physics Award (Junior).
Kyle C. (Grade 7)
- Project: Which Hand Washing Method Works Best
- Recognition: Gold Medal, Sani Marc Award, and the Most Outstanding Health/Biotechnology Award (Junior).
