Grade 5 & 9 Advent Calendar CollaborationStudents in Mrs. Kasian-Machovec’s Grade 9 Lifeworks and Bible classes are working alongside Mrs. Gibbons Grade 5s to create a life size Advent Calendar. The creative collaboration between Senior Years and Middle Years is generating enthusiasm while reinforcing our commitment to an education built on relationships. This project highlights important biblical truths learned in Kasian-Machovec’s Bible class and incorporates the volunteer component of the Grade 9 Lifeworks curriculum.
Students are working in partners to create representations of the names of Jesus using metaphoric images. It has been wonderful to watch the interaction between the Grade 5 and 9 partners as they come up with ideas and work together to create each symbolic piece in a mixed media approach.
Learning who God is by examining the many names scripture uses for Jesus is a tool that Mrs. Kasian-Machovec and Mrs. Gibbons hope will bring joy and clarity to students’ hearts as they approach the celebration of Christ’s birth.
Once the students finalize their separate pieces, the life size Advent Calendar will be assembled and displayed for the Christmas season, beginning on December 1, in the upstairs alcove.
