Spiritual Growth and Leadership at Camp ManitouLinden Christian School students recently returned from an impactful two-day leadership retreat at Camp Manitou, held on Wednesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 23. Twenty-seven students from LCS joined 14 peers from three other independent Christian schools—Austin Christian Academy, Morweena, and Kings School—for a meaningful experience focused on integrating faith and life.
The retreat featured five total sessions designed to challenge students toward deeper spiritual growth:
- AJ Crocker, Executive Director of ACSI Western Canada, led three powerful sessions focusing on our identity and purpose in Christ. Topics included:
- “What we have been given”: Exploring the unique gifts and abilities God has entrusted to each student (Matthew 25).
- “The way we live”: Discussing how our faith should transform our daily conduct (Matthew 5).
- “The Fork in the Road”: Challenging students to prioritize following God over cultural voices (1 Samuel 17, Mark 10:17).
- Keynote Speaker Josh Dalzell, Leader of Spiritual Care and Campus Life at LCS, wrapped up the main sessions with a final compelling message on the importance of living a life that honors God.
A highlight of the event was the opportunity for students to step into leadership roles by hosting four peer-led workshops. This emphasis on student ownership fostered excellent dialogue and shared learning:
- Cade F. presented on “The Why of the Word,” encouraging confidence in the reliability of the Bible.
- Ezra M. led a session on “Love without works is Dead,” focusing on the call to humble service.
- Rudy S. facilitated a discussion titled “What is Truth?” based on the teachings of the Apostle Paul.
- Noa D. & Jackson P. collaborated on a practical session titled “How to Defend your Faith.”
The schedule also included vital individual and group reflection time, ensuring students could process and internalize the challenging messages.
Outside of the sessions, students participated in various team-building and fun activities designed to build lasting bonds, including icebreakers, an interactive “Walk a mile” group activity, a Low Ropes Course, and evening activities like Broomball on the ice and a Fire Pit gathering.
Thank you to Lead Coordinator Jen W., Keynote Speaker Josh Dalzell, and supporting staff Zach and Chantelle for their dedicated efforts in organizing and running this successful and deeply impactful experience for all 27 attending LCS students.
