LCS Students Experience Life-Changing Missions Trip to GuatemalaTwenty-one students and four staff members from Linden Christian School are currently enjoying a transformative missions trip to Tactic, Guatemala. They have been partnering with Impact Ministries; serving at local schools and churches. During the trip, scheduled for February 4-15, 2025, the group has supported Vacation Bible School (VBS), visited schools that serve orphaned and abandoned children, participated in work projects, met sponsored children, and experienced local customs.
The annual LCS missions trip provides students with a powerful opportunity to witness both the challenges and the vibrant faith of the Guatemalan people. Several students have already shared their experiences, highlighting the deep joy and resilience they encountered, even amidst difficult circumstances.
“The kids here always have so much joy in them, and always have smiles and hugs to give us,” one student reported. “We’ve gone to lots of Impact Ministry schools and they are all so happy to see us, greeting us with confetti and cheering.” Another student described the emotional impact of visiting the homes of sponsored children, noting, “After seeing where these kids are coming from, it’s incredible to see how much joy they have and how passionate they are for Jesus.”
The team also participated in powerful worship experiences, including one at Chi-Ixim church and another at a local sinkhole. One student recounted the moving experience of worshipping at the church, which was previously a site for traditional sacrifices. “The darkness and anxiousness I felt when we walked in instantly disappeared when we started worshipping,” the student shared. The group also worshipped at the sinkhole, a natural wonder that attracts many people seeking help from dark spiritual forces. Our team was able to sing worship songs (“Lord I Need You” and “Ten Thousand Reasons”) to the one true God after witnessing a witch doctor performing a ceremony at the sinkhole. The peace of God flooded our students’ hearts and light illuminated the cave after they finished singing. One of their guides encouraged the students to lay their burdens at the feet of the Lord, leave those things in the cave, and walk out as a new person in Christ. This was a life-changing experience for me,” one student reflected, “as I had never thought about how you can constantly become a new person in Christ when you leave your burdens at His feet.”
Meeting sponsored children was a highlight for many. Students described the joy of connecting with their sponsor children and their families, hearing their stories, and praying for them. “They never give up on God,” one student observed, “and I think we can’t forget this.” Another student shared the emotional experience of meeting a sponsored child facing health challenges, noting the family’s unwavering faith despite their struggles.
The trip exposed the students to the spiritual realities of Guatemala, including the presence of spiritually dark forces at work in Guatemala. They witnessed firsthand the impact of poverty and the challenges faced by families, but were also deeply impressed by the unwavering faith and contagious joy of the Guatemalan people.
“Overall it was an amazing experience,” one student concluded. “To see these kids worship like I had never seen and to meet two of my families’ sponsor kids was truly life-changing…I would tell anyone who would ask me, yes absolutely you should go to Guatemala, it is a life-changing experience.” The students’ experiences in Tactic have clearly left a lasting impression, challenging their perspectives and deepening their own faith journeys.
