Love in Action at Harvest ManitobaAt LCS, our Grade 7 students have been volunteering at Harvest Manitoba for the last 19 years as part of our Social Studies and Biblical Studies curricula. This year, the students collected and donated 426 pounds of food, which equates to $1367.45 in monetary value for Harvest. During a recent field trip, students were educated about the issues of food security in Manitoba, the poverty cycle, and how Harvest Manitoba partners with other nonprofit organizations to meet the needs of our most vulnerable Manitobans. Our Grade 7s also toured the facility, spent two hours debulking several hundred pounds of flour and rice, and made encouragement cards to be placed into lunches for students who are part of a meal program in schools across Manitoba.
This was a day where students were not only able to learn more about human rights, they were able to put love into action and practice what it means to be a follower of Christ.
Our Grade 7 students recently memorized Jeremiah 22:3. The scripture reinforced the outreach field trip to Harvest Manitoba.
“This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.”
