Sacred Celebration: LCS Senior Years Choirs Present “Mary Had a Baby” at Crescent Arts Centre

LCS Senior Years choir students and guests gathered on Wednesday, December 17 for an evening of Christmas choral music. This year’s concert, themed “Mary Had a Baby,” focused exclusively on sacred music, offering a reverent reflection on the birth of Jesus through a selection of sacred Christmas songs, including “What Child Is This?”, “Mary Did You Know?”, “The Shepherd’s Carol”, “He Came Down” and “This Little Babe”.

The concert, featuring Grade 9-12 LCS students was held at the Crescent Arts Centre. The venue’s architectural beauty and exceptional acoustics provided a wonderful backdrop, allowing the nuanced harmonies of the choirs and vocal ensembles to resonate with clarity and warmth.

The program was anchored in several of the school’s most cherished traditions. The evening began with a solemn candlelight procession, setting a tone of quiet anticipation and peace. The repertoire transitioned through narratives of Christ’s birth, culminating in a powerful moment of community worship. Following a long-standing school tradition, our students invited guests to join them on stage in the singing of George Frideric Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.” The collective voices of students, faculty, and families filled the hall in a triumphant declaration of faith.

The evening was more than a performance; it was an intentional act of worship for our students. It was beautiful to witness them lead the community in hope, faith and song, in a space that beautifully amplified their voices.

The concert served as a powerful reminder of the school’s commitment to excellence in the arts, and the centeredness of Christ in Christmas.
