The Pursuit of Excellence: Distinction and Dedication at Celebration Chapel

Each spring at LCS, our Grade 3-8 community gathers to celebrate student accomplishments at a special Celebration Chapel. On Friday, May 30, 2025 students were recognized for various achievements, character awards and school involvement.

We thanked our Crosswalk Patrols and presented trophies to our Speech Contest winners. All finalists were hooured and the overall top speeches were awarded trophies.

Early and Middle Years Choral awards were presented to Mrs. Brenda Johnson by Dawn Bruch-Wiens, on behalf of our Grade 3 and 4 choirs. Our Grade 3 Choir received the Mozart Shield, which is awarded to the most outstanding performance by a School Choir in K-Grade 3. Our Grade 4 Choir was the recipient of the Helen Derksen Memorial Shield for the most outstanding performance of a sacred selection by a School Chorus. Our Grade 3, 4, and 5 Choirs received gold standings at Music Festival this year. Our Grade 8 Choir received an invitation to Nationals based on their performance at ChoralFest this year. Congratulations was also given to Aria F. and Ethan S. for their acceptance and performance in this year’s Manitoba Provincial Junior Honour Band.

Excellence was on display at our annual Science Fair, with many students selected to attend the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium from April 12-13, 2025. Many of our students received Gold and Silver standings and Wyatt S. in Grade 5 was honoured with the “Most Outstanding Physics and Engineering award at an Elementary Level”.

Mr. Pullman and Mrs. Tawfik recognized the excellence of our Grade 7-8 athletes (volleyball, basketball and badminton), delivering results about Zone Championships and tournament and Provincial wins.

Students in Grades 7 and 8 were able to participate in two Math Contests through CEMC and the University of Waterloo this year. Congratulations to Eric C, Anabella P, Ethan S, Sara S, Charlee T, and Jonathan Z. for ranking in the top 25% of contest participants in the Pascal Contest. Charlee T. and Sara S, along with a Grade 9 student, placed 6th out of 51 Manitoba schools participating.

Congratulations to Benaiah J, Heidi L, Pishoy N, Andy X, Rain Y, and Thomas Z. for scoring in the top 25 % of Grade 7 participants in the Guass Math Contest. Congratulations to the following Grade 8 students of distinction for scoring in the top 25% of participants in the Guass Math Contest: David L, Ayomipo O, Anabella P, Ethan S, Charlee T, Charlie Z, and Jonathan Z.

The Global Citizenship and Discipleship Award acknowledges students in Grade 7 who have demonstrated, through the actions and attitudes, exceptional care for their school community, the community abroad, and have shown continual growth in their spiritual life as evidenced by the fruit of the Spirit. Congratulations to Claire B, Grace B, Tony B, Macy H, Charlie S, Jane T. and Alicia Z.

Vice Principal of Middle Years Jeff Thiessen presented our Grade 8 Servant Leadership awards to Iwinosa A, Hanniel A, Naomi B, Aria F, Ayomipo O, Ayda S, and Nolan S.

We celebrated distinction and dedication all morning long. Congratulations to our students for their accomplishments and ongoing pursuit of excellence.
