Wildlife Ambassadors Visit LCS

Grade 4 students had some very special guests on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. R2 the red-tailed hawk, Bruce, a western hognose snake, and a great horned owl named Griffin from the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre paid a visit to LCS. The experience was timely, as our Grade 4s had just finished reading Owls in the Family by Farley Mowat. Classroom discussions about imprinting were brought to life through this unique presentation.

Education volunteers spoke to our students about their mission to care for the wildlife who play a vital role in the ecological and biological processes essential to life.

Students learned many interesting facts about each non-releasable Wildlife Ambassador (R2, Bruce and Griffin). The presentation also included teaching about the rescue and rehabilitation process. It was so fun for the Grade 4s to meet the guests up close!

The Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre is equipped with a full-time licensed veterinarian, diagnostic equipment and an operating room to provide care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife from all over Manitoba.
