Spreading Joy with Operation Christmas ChildLCS and Grant Memorial Church annually partner with Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child gift box collection, aiming to share the Good News of Jesus around the world. This year, we brought back the tradition of an Operation Christmas Child chain, after a five year hiatus!
This year’s outreach campaign, that encouraged families to get involved in packing shoeboxes and sending in gift items in early November, culminated in a send-off chapel on November 21, 2024. Kindergarten to Grade 4 students transported carefully packed Operation Christmas Child gift boxes to the back of the Sanctuary. Shoe boxes travelled, one by one, down a long line of children, to be boxed up for shipping by our Senior Years student volunteers. Hundreds of gift boxes are now enroute to the Operation Christmas Child Processing Centre in Calgary. They will be delivered to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine and disease around the world, with the message of God’s love for them and the Good News of Jesus Christ!
Joining with thousands worldwide to help take the Gospel to the ends of the earth has been a tradition at LCS for over 20 years. The powerful Samaritan’ s Purse initiative seeks to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world.
Principal Schroeder prayed with students to commission the shoebox journey and we worshiped together as a community. We heard from two of our Early Years teachers (Ms. Slama – Grade 2 teacher, and Mrs. Moorhead – Grade 4 teacher), who shared stories of working with Operation Christmas Child and how God always provided, even in impossible situations.
Thank you to our Kindergarten to Grade 4 parents and students for filling shoeboxes and sending in gift items! It was a blessing to see our youngest students involved in this global outreach project. The OCC collection and student chain reinforced the LCS vision of helping our students grow to be compassionate community members who are equipped to serve others.
