Ready, Set, Read: Fueling Our Brains One Page at a TimeStart your engines! This March, we are driving into a month-long reading celebration designed to fuel our minds and foster a love of literature in Kindergarten to Grade 6. From special guest co-pilots to high-speed character dress-ups, it’s going to be a fast-paced month of discovery for I Love to Read Month.
Kindergarten to Grade 6 students can look forward to the following events:
- March 2 | Reading Rally (K–6): We will kick off the month in the Sanctuary to introduce our activities and start our first official reading session together.
- March 13 | Flashlight Friday (K–6): Grab your “headlights!” Students will spend the final 30 minutes of the day reading by flashlight only.
- March 20 | Read with Your Co-Pilot (K–4): Students are invited to bring a stuffed animal “reading buddy” to join them for their literacy journey.
- March 25 | Book Character Dress-Up Day (K–6): Dress as your favorite character from any school-appropriate book—racing themes are highly encouraged!
The Race for Reading Minutes
Students will track their progress all month long! Be sure to remind your children to log their reading minutes and hand them in for a chance to win a fabulous prize.
The stakes are high for our staff as well. The classroom with the most reading minutes will earn the honor of choosing a crazy outfit for Vice Principal of Early Years Mrs. Karr (K–4) and Middle Years Vice Principal Mr. Thiessen (Gr 5–6) to wear for a day!
Let’s get reading, LCS!
