Bringing Hope to Guatemala: On the Move

Senior Years students participated in Ride for Impact, a fundraising initiative that saw students bike and walk to raise funds in support of Impact Ministries in Tactic, Guatemala. Our Grade 9-12 students participated, choosing to either bike for 10 or 20 km, or walk for 5 km. For two weeks leading up to our “Ride for Refuge”, students heard about Impact Ministries and had opportunities to pray for the students and staff in Guatemala. They brought in donations, and raised funds through an online donation portal. On Friday, May 30, 2025 students and staff wore blue and biked or walked in support Impact Ministries.

This year our fundraising goal was $25,000 and currently our community has raised $25,252, $18,252 through student donations and $7,000 through a matching donor. Gifts can still be made on our donor portal here.

Impact Ministries provides much needed access to education, caring Christian teachers, resources, Christian discipleship, nutritious meals, and medical care to children in Guatemala. Through meeting the basic needs of children and teaching with a Biblical worldview, students are being set up to succeed.

LCS has been partnering with Impact Ministries through outreach teams and projects for 16 years. We annually send a Senior Years mission team to Tactic to serve alongside Impact Ministries. LCS sent a staff team to Tactic in 2014, spearheaded a project to raise money for a soccer complex at one of the Impact Ministry schools in 2022, and built a classroom for Impact in Mestala in 2024. Read about our 2025 Guatemala missions trip here. We value our partnership with the Christ-centred organization and are committed to helping them live out their mission.

Founders Les and Rita Peters launched the ministry in 2000, beginning with 78 students. Today, Impact Ministries has grown to include 10 different school programs with over 1700 students, along with a nutrition program where they serve 9,000 meals per week. They also run a medical clinic, agricultural program, numerous churches, and a children’s home for orphaned and abandoned children.

The recent Ride for Impact challenge for Senior Years students helped reinforce our commitment to developing compassionate community members. Our ongoing partnership with Impact Ministries equips our students to serve and teaches them the value of outreach and mission.
