Linden Christian has enjoyed our most successful year in badminton to date. Our JV team had six different teams qualify for Provincials. In Girls Doubles LCS took first place (Veronica J. and Joanne P.), second place (Sophia C. and Maddy K.), and third place (Brooklynn C. and Cate S.) at the Zone final. Also qualifying for Provincials were Eden S. and Nolin G, along with Kyle G. and Nilesh D. in Boys Doubles, Cohen K. and Annika T. in Mixed Doubles, and Preston F. in Boys Singles.

All teams played hard in Provincials and made a solid push for the playoffs. Preston F. made it to the finals and in the process he made LCS badminton history, taking home the Provincial gold medal in the Manitoba High School’s Athletic Association JV Boys Singles! Preston proved himself to be very determined and coachable. He never wavered from his game plan in the finals against a very formidable opponent, and demonstrating patience and grit as he battled to a 21-14, 21-14 victory against Anarak M. of the JH Bruns. Preston finished the year undefeated in JV play, with his only loss being in a Varsity tournament in a three-set match against Anson Chen, the Varsity Provincial Champion from St. Paul’s.

Our Varsity team also did well at Zones with a number of teams qualifying for Provincials. Our Boys Doubles team of Robert John D. and Jaden V. were able to attend, keeping a positive attitude against tough competition.

The Provincial Championships took place from May 2-4, 2024 at the Sport for Life Centre, with the top players from across the province competing for the ultimate high school badminton prize.

Congratulations to all of our athletes and thank you to coach Scott Schalla!

Congratulations to Preston F. – the MHSAA Provincial JV Champion for Boys Singles!
