Biomedical Engineering Career Café with Alumna Meaghan Coates

Students in Grades 11-12 had the opportunity to attend a Career Café on Biomedical Engineering on March 19, 2024. It was wonderful to welcome alumna Meaghan Coates ’09 back to LCS to speak to students about biomedical engineering, research and career opportunities in the field.

Coates is the Director of Engineering Operations for the Orthopaedic Innovation Centre and she presented on the biomedical field and what is required of students entering into the faculty of engineering. She shared about the impact of innovation and medical advancements, testing and the experience of being a woman in the field of engineering.

She brought examples of knee and hip replacement technology for the students to examine and walked them through the processes involved in research, safety, and protocol that help bring medical advancements into our hospitals, homes and lives.
