Growing Inquiry and Critical Thinking Skills in Grade 1

Grade 1 students recently created their very own bird feeders during a Science unit on Living and Nonliving Things. They spent time planning and collecting materials before building their projects.
Ms. Doerksen asked her class some important questions to help guide their outcomes and to grow inquiry and critical thinking skills:
What materials will I use to make it?
Where will the bird sit?
Where will the food go?
Where will I put it?
Did I have a problem? What was the solution?
It is exciting to see critical thinking and curiosity flourish in the classroom.
