School Vision Reinforced in Chemistry Class

Linden Christian School is committed to helping students grow to be discerning decision makers and compassionate community members. Since 2011, chemistry teacher Mr. Joel Kulik has been giving his Grade 12 students the opportunity to exercise these traits through a unit on ethical and natural soap making.

Students are challenged to think through ethical considerations (growing as discerning decision makers) concerning the production and marketing of cosmetic products. They use scientific knowledge to create their product, keeping ethical considerations in view. Essential oils and natural ingredients are sourced and safety protocols followed as our students develop their own beautiful, fragrant soaps.

After the soap is cured, students will brand their creations and sell their product to the LCS community. All proceeds will be directed to the Canadian Food Grains Bank (a top Canadian charity that focuses on food security), reinforcing our school value of growing to be compassionate community members.
